One man is dead and three suspects remain on the loose following a home invasion Monday morning in the northwest part of the valley.
It happened at about 10:15 a.m. on North Rainbow Boulevard near Cheyenne Avenue.
The apartment complex, La Ventana, was locked down for hours on Monday as Metro police pieced together the events that led up to a gun fight.
Police said it started when the couple that lives in the apartment heard a knock at their door.
"A man, woman and their infant child (were) at home when they heard a knock at the door. Upon opening the door, at least three or four suspects entered the home in an apparent home invasion," said Metro's Lt. Ray Steiber.
Police said it turned into a gun fight as soon as the suspects entered the home. Numerous shots were fired between the suspects and the residents. It was a gun fight that spilled out to the parking lot.
"The suspects then fled in a vehicle which was later recovered inside the parking lot," Steiber continued.
One suspect was transported to UMC Trauma, where he died. The other suspects remain on the loose, rattling the nerves of neighbors.
"I still have another two months on my lease but this is gonna happen anywhere. You've got crazy people all over the country, so it really doesn't matter. I'll still live here," said neighbor Julie Clair.
Metro still hasn't determined if the suspects knew the victims or if those victims were random targets.
Police describe the suspects as two men and one woman, all in their 20s. They were wearing dark clothing on Monday morning. They should be considered dangerous. If you have information concerning their whereabouts, you're urged to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
Both of the victims sustained minor injuries. The infant was not hurt.
