MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A suspected burglar ran straight into the arms of the law Wednesday as he tried to flee with items from a Mesa house.

Andrew Devin Solorzano, 18, was arrested and booked into jail on burglary and trespass charges after he was caught leaving the back of a house by a Mesa police officer waiting for backup near Ninth Avenue and Mesa Drive, according to a Mesa Police Department arrest report.

A neighbor called police to report a stranger in his backyard had broken a window to his house around 9:30 a.m. While talking with that person, another neighbor came up to the officer and told him a man was in the backyard three houses east of the original house, the report stated.

The officer found the door ajar at that house and called for backup. While he waited, the suspect walked out the back door carrying items from the house.

The officer immediately took the suspect into custody and the homeowner later identified the items.

Police said the Solorzano is suspected of burglarizing two other homes in the area.
