Nathan Burkett (LVMPD)
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A Las Vegas judge Wednesday ruled there was enough evidence to proceed with murder charges against a 65-year-old man accused in two cold case slayings.
Nathan Burkett faces charges in connection to the 1978 homicide of Barbara Ann Cox and the 1994 slaying of Tina Mitchell.
A preliminary hearing for Burkett was scheduled for Dec. 26 at 10:30 a.m.
According to Las Vegas Metro police, law enforcement in Mississippi arrested Burkett in August in connection to the slayings.
Metro homicide detectives said DNA evidence linked Burkett to the slayings, which were, at some point, considered cold cases.
Metro Lt. Ray Steiber said the victims were strangled and their bodies dumped.
Police were also looking into Burkett's connection to other unsolved cases.
