LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Not bad for a freshman. The Runnin' Rebels' Anthony Bennett has been named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
It's the first such honor for Bennett and the first of the season for the Rebels.
Bennett, a 6'8" forward from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, led the Rebels to a 2-0 road record last week with wins at Portland and California.
Bennett scored a game-high 18 points from the field against the Pilots and added six rebounds. He also had three steals and one blocked shot.
On Sunday, he tallied a career-high 25 points and 13 rebounds, recording his second double-double of the season.
Bennett averaged 21.5 points for the week with 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 53.6 percent from the field and 63.2 percent from the free throw line.
UNLV will host La Verne on Thursday at 7 p.m.
