Holiday shipping deadlines looming

HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

Christmas is two weeks from Tuesday, and that means the mad rush to get gifts shipped out on time is on.

Between holiday packages and online retailer shipments, UPS and FedEx are expecting to break records this year.

At the FedEx Store on Sunset and Stephanie, folks looked to beat the last-minute rush.

"It was great. I just walked right up, they helped me pick out a package and I walked right to the counter," Ryan Graff said.

FedEx expecting Monday to be its busiest day in history with more than 19 million packages moving through. They credit a mix of Cyber Monday shipments and other holiday packages.

At the UPS Store on Sunset and Green Valley, we're told a lot of people took advantage of a head start to the shipping season.

"We've had five weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas which is unusual, in the past it's about 3 1/2 weeks in that time," owner Tom Englund said.

UPS is expecting its busiest day to be the Thursday before Christmas, Dec. 20. They'll ship more than 70 million packages worldwide.

Folks at the store Monday are happy they got out before that day comes.

"I was expecting a two-hour, wait so I was pretty excited to come in and get out," Stephanie Bourne said.

"I had shipped some packages my wife put together to go to my family, and she put me under the gun to get them out as quick as possible, which I had already procrastinated the last three days," Joe Small said.
