HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
Metro police on Monday afternoon took aim at another marijuana grow house in the valley. This one was in Henderson near Horizon Drive and U.S. 95.
Police spent much of the afternoon and evening taking plants and other items from the home. Police arrested Michael Plunkett, 22, of Henderson and Brianna Lieder, 21, of Henderson. Plunkett was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to sell, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Lieder was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance.
The couple, led out of the home in handcuffs, was home when officers executed a search warrant and discovered 47 marijuana plants and approximately 45 pounds of marijuana ready for sale. The estimated street value of the plants and marijuana is $600,000.
"We received a tip a few days ago from some concerned citizens regarding unusual activity at the house," said Metro's Lt. Laz Chavez.
Some neighbors told FOX5 they could smell marijuana.
"I thought maybe they were growing a couple of plants for themselves, but I did not know the house was full of plants," said neighbor Matthew Garcia.
"I just noticed a lot of people would come in and out and everything," said another neighbor, Bailley Short.
"The electrical paneling had been bypassed. (The house contained) chemicals, fertilizer. There was a pretty substantial amount of damage done to this home," Chavez said.
Police also found a firearm inside the house.
The couple sat cuffed next to a Christmas tree as boxes and boxes of marijuana and grow tools were carried out.
"They seemed like a normal couple to me. They didn't seem like druggies or anything like that," Short said.
"They realized pretty quickly that they're facing some serious charges and that they're going to jail," said Chavez.
Metro police also raided a house belonging to the mother of the male suspect in the first raid. They have not released information about that search but the woman's attorney told FOX5 that nothing illegal was found.
This is the 136th marijuana grow house raided by Metro police so far this year.
