LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The director of southern Nevada homeless relief group Catholic Charities has died.

The organization announced the death of Monsignor Patrick Leary on Sunday. The cause of his death was not disclosed.

The organization said his funeral will take place at Guardian Angel Cathedral in Las Vegas on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m.

Catholic Charities said it anticipates a flood of people hoping to honor the monsignor.

"Monsignor Leary leaves behind a strong legacy here in southern Nevada and we understand that due to the holiday season and the limited space at the Cathedral, not everyone who wishes to honor his life may be able to do so this Saturday," Father Bob Stoeckig, Vicar General of the Diocese of Las Vegas said. "Therefore we are contemplating other opportunities in the coming year to commemorate Monsignor Leary's life, his ministries and his legacy and we want people to know that there will be other opportunities to honor him in the coming months."

The 63-year-old New York-born Leary headed up the largest nonprofit organization in the area since 2003.

He was first ordained as a priest in 1976, according to Catholic Charities.
