FLORENCE, AZ (CBS5) -

Pinal County deputies seized more than 4,500 rounds of handgun ammunition after a large SUV reported stolen in Phoenix was found abandoned after a chase through the southern Arizona desert Saturday night.

Tim Gaffney of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said a deputy gave chase after seeing the SUV going south outside the town of Stanfield. Gaffney said the SUV had been reported stolen Friday.

Officers from the Gila River Police Department and Bureau of Land Management assisted the deputy in finding the vehicle abandoned in the desert.

The 4,550 rounds found inside the SUV were for a .38-caliber Super+P handgun, Gaffney said.

No suspects were apprehended.
