LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The Clark County Coroner's office released the name of a 16-year-old driver who was killed in a weekend wreck in west Las Vegas.
Eddie Ruiz died of multiple blunt force trauma as a result of a motor vehicle accident, the coroner's office said.
According to Las Vegas Metro police, Ruiz and a teen male passenger were traveling south on Jones Boulevard in a 1994 Honda Civic about 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
Police said another vehicle, possibly an SUV, was also traveling south on Jones, just ahead of the Honda.
The Honda entered the center of a two-way turn lane to pass the unidentified vehicle on the left, police said.
The Honda made contact with the front of the unidentified vehicle, which caused the teens to rotate clockwise and lose control near Empire Circle, according to Metro.
Police said the vehicle hit a chain link fence and concrete wall bordering a residence
Both occupants in the Honda were transported to University Medical Center, where Ruiz was pronounced dead. The teen passenger involved in the incident was listed in serious condition.
The unidentified vehicle fled the scene and was wanted for questioning.
As of this incident, Metro has investigated 103 traffic-related fatalities in this year.
