The National Finals Rodeo returned to action at the Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday night. It's the 28th year the rodeo has run in Las Vegas.
The top 15 cowboys and cowgirls in nine separate events are competing for $6 million in prize money.
Attendance will be around 175,000, many of whom attend yearly.
Doug and Linen Greenough of Sheridan, WY said it's the people they meet each year that has them coming back to the NFR.
"Tomorrow morning we're going to a breakfast for Wyoming people and the governor will be there," said Linen Greenough.
There's an aura surrounding the NFR that can't be recreated, only experienced.
"It's the entire package," said Roy Adams of Richfield, UT. "The people, the hospitality. It's a lot of fun for us."
Nine-time all-around champion Trevor Brazille leads after the first day of competition.
The NFR will run nightly through Saturday, Dec. 15.
