Years of hard work are culminating at UNLV as seniors in the engineering program are showing off their inventions during their design competition. The judging began Wednesday morning with 32 teams fighting it out for bragging rights and a share of the $25,000 in prize money up for grabs.
The event is open to the public where they can check out products that may end up on store shelves and make these students loads of cash. The event wraps up about 5 p.m. Wednesday as judges rotate through the teams at the UNLV Foundations Building near Maryland and Cottage Grove Avenue as they each give a presentation of up to 15 minutes.
The inventions range from an automatic bottle capper, a motorized TV wall mount, energy harvesters, a home completely powered with solar energy and even a circular wave pool that could one day have Vegas visitors surfing on the Strip.
Donations fund the prize money as well as some of the costs that go into creating the inventions by the students.
