LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

North Las Vegas Police offered a helping hand to kids in need Wednesday with their Shop with a Cop event.

Participants were chosen from a variety of organizations, including Candlelighters of Southern Nevada, Make a Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada, Positively Kids Foundation and the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation.

All of these organizations work to help terminally ill and medically fragile children.

Officers took more than 45 children to the Target at 2189 W. Craig Rd.

They were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus, who arrived in a parade of flashing police vehicles.

Each child was given $200 to spend in Target.

North Las Vegas Police, Detention, and Marshal officers volunteered to be their "personal shoppers."

The event is made possible by donations from North Las Vegas businesses and individuals.
