Police: Pedestrian struck by SUV in crosswalk

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle west of downtown Las Vegas was trapped underneath, Metro police said.

Police reported the collision near Palomino Lane and Rancho Drive just after 1 p.m. Monday.

According to Metro, a sport-utility vehicle was attempting a left turn onto southbound Rancho from Palomino when the driver, identified as Gilbert Waltens, 71, hit the male victim, identified as Philip Marchant, 75, in the crosswalk.

Police said the victim was dragged about 30 feet before the driver stopped.

Metro said the pedestrian was transported to University Medical Center with life-threatening head and chest injuries.

Metro's Fatal Detail was called to the scene, police said.
