Following a scaled back version of the display which debuted at downtown Las Vegas' First Friday event in November, Da Vinci – The Genius will return on Friday, Dec. 7.
The exhibit, currently on display at Imagine Exhibitions Gallery in The Venetian, has been referred to as "the most comprehensive exploration of the mind and works of Leonardo da Vinci."
Featured pieces include the following:
• Pianola Portatile: da Vinci dabbled in musical instruments and created a portable piano to be worn around the waist and played with both hands.
• Studio per Condotti Conici: In this experimental device, wind or water is directed through two funnel-shaped cones with perforations at the top. This created a speed gauge that was used to measure the intensity of wind and water.
• Mitragliatrice a Tre Registri: da Vinci's three-registered gun-machine is perhaps the forerunner of the modern machine gun.
• Carter a Catena: da Vinci paid great attention to the transmission of rotary motion. Through this chain crankcase, he investigates the use of chains rather than ropes.
First Friday runs from 5 - 10 p.m. the first Friday of every month in downtown Las Vegas. For more information, visit www.firstfridaylasvegas.com.
