NV Energy warning customers of nonpayment scam

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

NV Energy is advising its customers of phone calls that threaten to shut off power due to non-payment.

The utility said a person or people identifying themselves as employees of NV Energy, seeking immediate credit card or cash payments over the phone to prevent disconnection.

NV Energy said the company does not call customers to solicit payments. In addition, customers who may be at risk of having power turned off will receive 10-day and 48-hour notices by U.S. Mail.

The utility urges people to refuse payment and call law enforcement or NV Energy for additional questions.
