Police: Mistress offered $800 to have Vancouver man's wife killed

Posted: Updated:

A Vancouver woman is accused of offering $800 to have the wife of a man she was having an affair with murdered.

Lori Goulet, 39, of Vancouver, made her first court appearance Wednesday on the charge of criminal solicitation of murder.

Vancouver police were notified about an anonymous letter on Nov. 2 mailed to Kevin Newsom at his Vancouver home. Police said Newsom is Goulet's estranged brother.

According to a Vancouver police probable cause document, officers said Goulet knew her brother to be associated with criminal and drugs and was offering money in exchange for somebody to kill the intended victim.

The letter, according to the documents, said the target was responsible for sexually abusing Goulet's three children and for the death of her infant.

The letter also indicated that the husband of the intended victim and their children should not be harmed.

Family members discovered the letter and turned it over to police.

The letter, according to detectives, had specific information including where the intended victim lived, vehicle descriptions, how to handle the dogs at her house and the time of day when the crime should be committed, along with other instructions.

The intended victim was not injured and the plan was never carried out.

Detectives said forensic and computer evidence linked the case to Goulet. She was arrested Tuesday.

Court documents show Goulet denied any involvement with the threats after she was arrested, but admitted having an intimate sexual relationship with the intended victim's husband.

That man also admitted the affair to police, saying it had occurred over the past nine months, but denied any involvement in the solicitation of murder plot.

Police said Goulet works with the man. A recent domestic violence incident between that man and his wife is currently being investigated by police.

Court documents show there is no information linking him to conspiring in the death threats against his wife, but the investigation is ongoing.
