(Source: Mesa Police Department) Robert Lheureux, a 48-year-old convicted felon, was in jail after Mesa police said they found more than $10,000 worth of merchandise taken from a Fry's store that was closed for Thanksgiving.
MESA, AZ (CBS5) -
We all know Black Friday started early this year, but police said one Mesa crook couldn't wait for the doors to open.
The Fry's Marketplace at Greenfield Road and Main Street closed early so its employees could spend Thanksgiving with family. Police said 48-year-old Robert Lheureux decided to spend the holiday at Fry's.
"It appears that we had a suspect who hid out inside of one of the Fry's stores until after it closed and everyone was gone for the day," said Detective Steve Berry.
The offender wandered around the store without anybody noticing. There were surveillance cameras inside, but he didn't trip an alarm until he left the building.
"But at that point he was basically all loaded up and ready to go, so he was able to quickly escape the area," Berry said.
Lheureux was arrested and booked into jail Sunday night on five felony counts in connection with the burglary, which included televisions, iPods, Xbox 360, Wiis, other electronic items and a case of cigarettes, according to a Superior Court document.
The burglar wore a ski mask and clothing covering his arms and legs, but at some point, police said they caught a glimpse of a tattoo that told them exactly who he was. Lheureux is a convicted felon.
When police got to his house they said they found most of the goods he'd taken from the Fry's.
Police said a search warrant was executed at Lheureux's home and police found several of the electronics, the cigarettes and packaging with Fry's labels. A shirt similar to one worn by the suspect in the video was found stuffed in a box of trash.
Police said Lheureux admitted to having sold some of the items.
Several knives and brass knuckles were also found on a desk, and because Lheureux is a felon whose rights have not been restored, he is prohibited from possessing weapons. A white, powdery substance was also found on the desk.
Lheureux was booked without bond on felony counts of trafficking in stolen property, theft, burglary, possession of a dangerous weapon by a prohibited person and drug possession.
