Las Vegans line up for Powerball tickets

Posted: Updated:

Forget about the latest smartphone or Bieber single, how would you like $425 million for the holidays?

Hundreds of southern Nevadans are hoping to make that reality, crossing the border to purchase Powerball tickets in Arizona.

One business, Last Stop, located about 25 minutes from the Hoover Dam, is extending its hours to get every possible sale.

"Powerball is record right now, so we thought we'd come out and take our shot and see if we can hit the big one," said Las Vegan Tom Oehler.

It's only about an hour drive from Las Vegas to Last Stop in Arizona. The lines are getting longer and you might want to get your tickets sooner than later.

"You want to be here in the morning, at six o'clock in the morning. (You should leave) Vegas at 5 to be here at 6," said Lynda Ducas, who co-owns Last Stop.

By 10 a.m., the line will be out the door and around the building. The line won't shrink until after 6 p.m.

All that waiting gave people time to think about what they'd do with the money.

"I'd move away from Las Vegas, that's for sure," said ticket buyer Alphonso Glenn.

"(I'd) take care of my son's education, buy a new car," added Alphonso Glenn's wife, Rosalind Glenn.

Some said that if they win, they'll embrace the spirit of the season, giving as well as receiving.

"(I'd buy) my kids everything they want for Christmas, and probably hand some money out to friends," Oehler said.

Last Stop will stay open until 11 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Keep in mind, the machine will stop printing tickets right at 11 p.m., so get in line in time.
