Firefighters calling on public to 'fill trucks' with toys

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The Clark County Fire Department and the Southern Nevada Firefighter Burn Foundation are helping put toys in the hands of thousands of local children this holiday season through the 11th annual "Fill the Fire Truck" holiday toy drive.

Last year, the drive brought gifts to 18,500 children. The toys are distributed through the Boys and Girls Club of Las Vegas, the Salvation Army, Family to Family Resource Centers and the Las Vegas Urban Leagues.

"We are proud to participate in this toy drive every year to help make the holidays brighter for our local kids," said Clark County Fire Chief Bertral Washington. "The firefighters you see outside stores are volunteering their off-duty time to this great cause, and the number of donations has gone up since the start of the recession thanks to our generous community."

Donations are being accepted now through Dec. 16, throughout the valley at any local Clark County fire station, or at the following Walmart locations:

  • 7200 Arroyo Crossing Parkway, #4356
  • 8060 W. Tropical Parkway, #2884
  • 6464 N. Decatur Boulevard, #3351
  • 4350 N. Nellis Boulevard, #2837
  • 540 Marks Street, #2838

Donations of unwrapped toys and gift cards are all accepted. For more information, visit www.theburnfoundation.org.
