Tips for preparing last minute Thanksgiving dinner

Procrastinators beware: It is in fact Thanksgiving, and if you haven't stocked up on all the essential ingredients for your feast, time is running out.

You can find some grocery stores open in the valley, even a few restaurants if you'd like something easier.

For those cooking their own feast, it's important to know your kitchen. Do you have all the tools you'll need, and do you have enough refrigerator and freezer space for all the food you buy at the store?

Marie Callender at Stephanie and Sunset in Henderson sells about 15,000 pies for Thanksgiving eaters. They have to bring in tractor-trailers for extra storage space just to store all the ingredients they need for the holiday.

"You have to plan ahead and know how much space you have in your refrigerator before you buy your Thanksgiving meal," says Marie Callender General Manager Jim Nelson.

"If you get home and run out of refrigerator space, that food may be ruined," adds Nelson.

A huge refrigerated semi-trailer is out front at the Marie Callender restaurant, as they not only are serving up pies, but also full Thanksgiving feasts to go. The truck is always at a chilly 38 degrees.

Nelson says a lot of people sell pies, but people keep coming back to his restaurant because they always use quality ingredients. He says that's another tip for the home cooker, use the freshest and highest quality ingredients for the best taste.
