LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
‘Tis the season to party, but it's also the season during which police see an increase in sexual assaults, and alcohol is usually a factor.
This year the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has teamed with local celebrities to encourage holiday revelers to "party smart."
Luxor headliners Criss Angel and Carrot Top along with the girls from Fantasy have taped public service announcements which are airing now, warning about sexual assault and urging young people to drink responsibly.
Police teamed with the Rape Crisis Center to produce the spots. Police said as the temperatures cool, people head to nightclubs where the liquor flows and sexual assault incidents spike around the holidays.
"We are sending a message out to guys to be respectful and responsible while warning young women not to be vulnerable when they go out to nightclubs," said Lt. Dan McGrath with Metro's Sexual Assault Unit. "We know that local icons like Criss Angel, Carrot Top and the Fantasy girls can get our message out to local and visiting partygoers that they can party in Las Vegas and still stay safe."
