LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
If you've been putting off a trip to the DMV to take care of business, Monday is definitely not the day to do it.
Dubbed "Black Monday," the Monday following Thanksgiving is the department's busiest day of the year, with waits of up to two or three hours.
"Enjoy your holidays and don't get stuck in the long lines early next week," urged DMV Director Troy Dillard.
Instead, you should check the DMV's website to see if you can conduct your transaction there. The site currently accommodates more than 20 transactions.
Also, most insurance issues can be handled online or over the phone. Address changes and custom license plate orders can be completed by mail or fax.
The DMV added 25 new self-serve kiosks earlier this year in locations such as Albertsons stores in Las Vegas. Kiosk locations may be found on the DMV's website.
The DMV's website and iPhone app list current office wait times.
The DMV will be closed from Thursday through Sunday. It will also be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
