LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Two people were shot and killed at a home near downtown Las Vegas Wednesday in an apparent murder-suicide.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, shots were reportedly heard just after 12 noon in the area of Center Street and Tonopah Drive, near the intersection of Rancho and Alta drives.

Police said an armed man went to the home of his estranged wife, where she, her boyfriend and three children, all under the age of 5, were inside.

An argument between the adults ensued, leading the gunman to shoot the boyfriend and then himself, according to police.

Both men died at the scene.

Police said the woman and the children escaped the home safely.

"A brief dispute began, at which point the estranged husband began shooting. It's believed at this time the boyfriend was struck by gunfire as well as the estranged husband, with a self-inflicted gunshot," said Metro Officer Marcus Martin.

Police said the neighborhood was evacuated and a negotiator was sent in during the incident.
