LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police said a driver who struck his sport utility vehicle into a light pole may have been driving under the influence at the time.

Police reported the single-vehicle collision on Cheyenne Avenue near Rainbow Boulevard about 12:23 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police, the vehicle driven by Lee Turner, 50, was eastbound on Cheyenne, when it lost control and drove onto the raised island between the right travel lane and right turn lane.

The driver then struck the signal light post on the island, police said.

Metro said Turner was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries. Police also charged Turner with driving under the influence.

There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.
