A person was found dead inside an apartment that caught fire in downtown Las Vegas late Wednesday night.
According to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, fire crews arrived at the scene of the fire on Ninth Street, near Bonanza Road and Las Vegas Boulevard North, shortly after 11 p.m.
Fire officials said heavy flames were coming from the second story of an apartment building. Due to the intensity of the fire, three nearby homes were evacuated, LVFR noted.
Officials say crews contained the fire within five minutes then entered the second floor of the apartment, where they found one adult person deceased.
According to fire crews, damage was confined to the bedroom where the victim was found. A downstairs unit had minor water damage.
LVFR estimated damage at $75,000.
Las Vegas Metro Homicide Unit and the Clark County Coroner's office were on scene to investigate the person's death.
It was not immediately known if the person died as a result of the fire.
There were no other injuries reported.
