Uncertainty looms over Henderson Hostess bakery

Posted: Updated:
HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

In the midst of a national employee strike, Hostess Brands is threatening to liquidate the company if employees don't return to work on Thursday.

Hostess is the creator of that iconic snack, the Twinkie.

After closing three earlier this week, the company operates 33 bakeries nationwide. Hostess said the closures were a direct result of the strike.

Of the 33 bakeries still in operation, one is located in Henderson, NV.

In an email sent to FOX5, a company spokesman said, to his knowledge, none of the Henderson bakery's 171 workers are on strike.

Employees elsewhere are striking over court-ordered pay and pension cuts mandated in the company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring.

Hostess owns several food brands, including Wonder Bread and employs 18,000 workers nationally.

Hostess would need the court's permission before any liquidation begins.

Could this mean the end of the Twinkie?
