Las Vegas Metro police arrested a man suspected of attacking two small girls and trying to pull down one's pants at a school bus stop.
Police on Wednesday evening identified the suspect as 20-year-old Abdul Munem Jumaalkam. He was booked into Clark County Detention Center on one count of lewdness with a minor under 14.
Jeri Kennedy, the father of one of the girls, told FOX5 he was outside watching the two at their school bus stop on Castlewood Drive and Sirius Avenue.
"It just blew my mind that it happened like that," Kennedy said.
At around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Kennedy saw a strange man walking down the street. Moments later he heard his daughter scream.
"My daughter starts screaming and hollering: 'the man, the man, the bad man!'"
Kennedy said his 6-year-old girl was able to get away, but her 7-year-old friend was now in trouble.
"About the time I pop up, he's got the other girl inside the bushes here trying to pull her pants down," Kennedy recalled.
Kennedy got a good look at the man. He tried to grab him before fleeing the area.
Just before 11 a.m., Kennedy spotted and identified Jumaalkam down the street at Cashman Park.
"I see the dude in the park," Kennedy said. "He dropped his head when he saw me."
Metro police told FOX5 that any case involving a child is taken seriously - especially since thousands wait for a school bus every day.
"We're talking about defenseless individuals," said department spokeswoman Laura Meltzer.
Meltzer suggests parents teach kids to be aware of their surroundings.
"If a child is not of an age to be left home alone, then that child is not of age to be left out on a public street alone," she said. "So, if we're talking about children, then parental supervision is a must."
This case, however, proves even supervision is not always foolproof.
"It blew my mind he did that while I'm standing right here," said Kennedy.
