Teachers union to present funding petition Tuesday

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Following the crushing defeat of Clark County Question No. 2 during last week's election, the Nevada State Education Association (NSEA) will present a petition to Nevada registrar offices on Tuesday.

Representatives for NSEA said they have collected more than the 72,000 signatures needed to qualify the petition.

The Education Initiative was designed to provide funding to schools by way of a 2 percent margin tax on business profits. The NSEA said businesses that bring in less than $1 million a year would be exempt.

In a release sent to FOX5 on Monday, the NSEA said this is necessary because "education in Nevada is not adequately funded and is unfairly subjected to the boom and bust cycles of the economy."

FOX5 is following this story intently and will have updates on Tuesday.
