HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

The Clark County coroner has identified the man shot and killed by Henderson police officers early Wednesday morning as 36-year-old Justin Hoey of Las Vegas.

Hoey's cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

According to police, Hoey was armed and suspected of assaulting his ex-girlfriend when he was shot by police following a two-hour standoff.

Negotiations failed for a peaceful surrender during the incident on St. Rose Parkway and Eastern Avenue early Wednesday morning.

A woman called dispatchers about 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday, reporting that she had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend at a gas station parking lot at Eastern and Serene avenues.

Officers were able to make contact 15 minutes later with Hoey, who was walking in the middle of St. Rose.

Hoey attempted to flee but fell into a drainage ditch, where he would be confronted by officers for at least two hours.

A Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) team was called to the scene during the negotiations.

Police said Hoey was threatening to kill himself, pointing the gun to his head. As Hoey pointed the firearm at police, authorities said, officers opened fire on him.

Hoey died at the scene.

Police said that Hoey was a registered felon with prior convictions in California and Nevada. Police also said he was wanted on an outstanding parole violation.

The department identified three officers involved in the incident:

• Officer Tyler Bailey, employed with Henderson Police since 2007;

• Officer Justin Dera, employed with Henderson Police since 2002;

• and Officer Jesse Lujan, employed with Henderson Police since 1997.

The officers were placed on routine paid administrative leave during the investigation of the incident.
