Nominations sought for Walmart's '12 Days of Giving'

Posted: Updated:

Walmart is calling upon Las Vegas residents to nominate a local nonprofit organization that is most deserving of a share of $1.5 million in the store's "12 Days of Giving" campaign.

The store, which is holding the program for the second year, is taking nominations from Facebook users on which organization best fits the giving theme of each day in the campaign.

"Giving themes" include those for hunger, military assistance and disaster relief, Walmart said.

Through Nov. 18, people can nominate an organization by going to the "Live Better" tab on the Walmart Facebook page.

According to Walmart, the nomination process is as follows:

  • Visitors nominate local organizations by submitting a 200-word description, including the nonprofit's impact in its local community.
  • Participants also can submit photos illustrating how the nonprofit helps families make ends meet; a gallery on the page will highlight submissions throughout the campaign.
  • A panel from Walmart will review submissions and select the winners.
  • Grant recipients will be announced daily on Facebook and Twitter from Dec. 10 to Dec. 21.
