Metro police identified the two officers involved in a deadly shooting on Friday on Cambridge Street near Katie Avenue.
- Officer Ellsworth is 28 years of age and has been employed with LVMPD since March, 2008.
- Officer Oris is 29 years of age and has been employed with LVMPD since August, 2008.
According to police, the incident began about 7:30 a.m. near the Siegel Suites on Cambridge Street near Katie Avenue.
Police said the man involved in the incident was getting evicted from the complex and was threatening the property's manager. The manager called 911 following the threat, said police.
When officers arrived, Metro said, the suspect grabbed a woman who was walking down the street and threatened her with two knives.
Police said two officers opened fire on the suspect. Metro said the woman's life was in danger at the time, prompting the shots.
The man was pronounced dead at Sunrise Trauma Center.
The officers are assigned to the LVMPD Patrol Division, South Central Area Command and have been placed on routine paid administrative leave.
