LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A man who was shot by officers at an east Las Vegas apartment complex tried carjacking two vehicles before being confronted by police, according to authorities.
Las Vegas Metro police identified the suspect injured in the officer-involved shooting as 39-year-old Terry Rogaczewski.
Metro says the officers involved in this case are Officer David M. Denton and Officer Theodore Richard Snodgrass III.
According to Metro, the two patrolling officers heard gunfire in the 5300 block of Boulder Highway just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
The officers went to an apartment complex where the shots were heard and found an idle vehicle against a brick wall, police said. According to Metro, the officers found an armed man who was trying to gain access to the vehicle from the passenger's side of the vehicle.
The man turned to the officers, pointing his weapon to them, police said. That was when, according to police, the officers opened fire on the man.
Police placed him in custody, and medical personnel transported him to University Medical Center Trauma, where he was treated and stabilized.
Police said an investigation revealed that the suspect had attempted to carjack a total of two vehicles at the entrance gate of the complex. The first motorist was able to flee while the second driver was shot at by the suspect, according to police.
The second motorist fled on foot without injury after colliding with a building, police said.
Rogaczewski was charged in absentia on counts of attempted murder, attempted robbery, assault, discharge of a firearm at or in an edifice and resisting an officer with a weapon.
Officer Denton and Officer Snodgrass were placed on routine paid administrative leave.
