LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

An armed man was being evicted from an apartment just before holding an elderly woman at knife point and being shot by a responding officer, Las Vegas Metro police said Friday.

According to police, the incident began about 7:30 a.m. near the Siegel Suites on Cambridge Street near Katie Avenue.

Police said the man involved in the incident was getting evicted from the complex and was threatening the property's manager. The manager called 911 following the threat, police said.

When officers arrived, Metro said, the suspect grabbed a woman who was walking down the street and threatened her with two knives.

Police said two officers opened fire on the suspect. Metro said the woman's life was in danger at the time, prompting the shots.

The man was pronounced dead at Sunrise Trauma Center.

Police shut down Cambridge between Twain Avenue and Flamingo Road shortly after the shooting.

Officials said the incident was the eighth officer-involved shooting in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
