DMV cracking down on unlicensed vehicle dealers

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Compliance officers are slated to crack down on businesses that sell motor vehicles without the proper licensing in the Las Vegas-area on Thursday.

The Department of Motor Vehicles said its "Impact Day" is being done to protect the public by helping businesses comply with the rules. It is also being done after new requirements were enacted for off-highway vehicle dealers on July 1, the DMV said.

"A licensed dealer has to be bonded, have a fixed place of business and follow strict standards on advertising and financing," said Donnie Perry, the administrator for the DMV Compliance Enforcement Division.

The DMV said off-highway vehicle dealers, in particular, have been slow to comply with the new laws.

Violators will be ordered to cease and desist all sales on Thursday. Possible penalties and legal action could follow, the DMV said.

Motorists can check if a business is in compliance by visiting dmvnv.com. Details on off-highway vehicle dealership licensing can be found at nvohv.com.
