NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -
The North Las Vegas Police Department has received a $48,000 federal grant for a pedestrian safety campaign called Lookout for Pedestrian Safety and Education.
The money will be used for safety events throughout the city from now until next September.
Officers will focus on crosswalks with high vehicle and pedestrian traffic, targeting drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians and pedestrians who fail to use crosswalks.
Police will also conduct 15 educational assemblies at elementary schools.
The goal is to educate drivers, pedestrians and children about their surroundings with the hope of reducing the number of automobile-pedestrian collisions which occur each year.
