LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
More than 60,000 voters exercised their right to vote this weekend after early voting got under way on Saturday.
"Since the beginning of the year, I've known for a while. I did some research on my candidate. I didn't even need to bring my practice ballot, I already knew who I was going to vote for," said Tabitha Castillo, an early voter.
Castillo decided to get an early start and vote. She is one of many who have already made up their mind.
"Anyone is able to speak anything. Around this time of year you see people talking to different ethnicities that would normally be ignored throughout the year," added Castillo.
"Whatever candidate they are for president they feel strongly about one way or the other. I think that is resulting in a good turnout or got us to a good start," said Larry Lomax with the Clark County Registrar of Voters.
In 2008, Clark County had 390,000 early voters. That's more than the 210,000 who waited until Election Day to cast their ballots. This year, county officials are expecting the early voting numbers to be even higher.
"In Clark County, you have to decide you are not going to vote rather than you are because you will cross one of our early voting sites," added Lomax.
Throughout the valley, 88 early voting sites are available and 3,500 trained volunteers are standing by to make the process quick and easy - a benefit not many others states have.
"I have relatives in Michigan who can't vote until Election Day and some can't vote on that day because they have other obligations," said Marty Santoro, an early voter.
"The mall is aimed towards different age demographics and ethnicity. There is a little bit of something here for everyone so what better place to who you are going to vote for the leader of your nation," added Castillo.
