LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A wind advisory is in effect Monday for much of Clark County as gusts are expected to intensify beginning late in the morning.

FOX5 meteorologist Ted Pretty said southwest winds are expected to blow into the Las Vegas valley at about 35 mph.

The strong gusts are forecasted between 40 and 50 mph, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory is expected to last from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Forecasters expect the winds to intensify during the late morning and afternoon.

Other areas affected by the advisory are Nye County and the western mountains in the Las Vegas valley.

Pretty reported the southwest winds will continue through Tuesday and Wednesday before north winds enter the area for the rest of the week. A temperature drop to the 70s is also expected.

The NWS advised motorists to remain on alert for sudden gusts and cross winds.
