HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -
More than 100 marijuana plants were seized from an apparent grow house in Henderson on Thursday.
Officers began the bust around 5:00 p.m. in the 2700 block of Pinewood Avenue, according to police.
Authorities said a total of 107 plants were seized with a street value of $321,000. Police also found 20 pounds of finished, ready-to-sell marijuana which is expected to add to the value.
Police identified a suspect arrested in the bust as 34-year-old Steven Prue.
Charges against Prue include possession marijuana with intent to sell, possession marijuana, and conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substance Act.
"After spending a little bit of time on surveillance, we were able to substantiate that there was, in fact a grow inside the house, and this was an operated drug lab," said Metro narcotics Lt. Laz Chavez.
Chavez added that tips from neighbors led to the execution of the search warrant.
Mary and Chuck Jarvi live behind the house and suspected nothing.
"It's just so rare that anything like this would happen here," Mary Jarvi said.
The bust happened just hours after children wrapped up their day at Cox Elementary - a school that is only one block away.
"That goes to show the disregard that these criminals have when they put together these grow houses and they set them up right next to a school," Chavez said.
Neighbors said the house was rented by a new tenant a few months ago.
"To have the criminal element so close to an elementary school - you don't know when the bad guys are going to start shooting each other," Chuck Jarvi said.
