LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Alexandra Goot lost her executive assistant job on Friday and immediately took action looking for a new one.
The UNLV Bachelor of Arts alumnus, who worked full-time since she graduated high school in 1999, immediately started working on making poster boards and updating her resume.
Instead of moping around, she put her suit back on and took to the streets.
"I decided to take matters into my own hands and come out and try to gain as much attention as creatively as possible. I want to stand out from the crowd," Goot said.
Goot certainly is standing out. She catches the attention of motorists at busy intersections, including 215 and Eastern.
She gets positive feedback in the form of honks and friendly gestures, and every so often a job prospect literally rolls by.
She exchanges her resume for their business cards.
Goot also puts herself out there sitting outside busy businesses like Starbucks.
"There's lots of foot traffic. A lot of business owners who are very happy to get their coffee and their muffin," Goot said.
Many have also been happy to pick up her resume as well.
John Lombardo was impressed with Goot. He says she has qualities many employers desire, including motivation and initiative.
"You know there's obviously a challenge here with people who haven't worked. And you can sit around and blame other people and be upset about it, or you can get out and do something about it. And she's out doing something about it, and I think that's impressive," Lombardo said.
Goot is also trying traditional methods of landing her next job. She has been applying online and filling out applications. She also attended a job fair on Wednesday, but made sure to bring her poster boards with her.
Each night Goot says she follows up with the numbers she received during the day in hopes she won't be out of work for long.
