LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police on Friday released a video via YouTube of Sheriff Doug Gillespie's internal communication to employees concerning the DA's decision to take the fatal Stanley Gibson shooting to a grand jury.

Gibson, 43, was a disabled veteran who was shot and killed last December by Metro Officer Jesus Arevalo after being stopped in his vehicle. Police said Gibson did not respond to requests that he exit his vehicle. Gibson was unarmed.

It was announced earlier this week that Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson will seek a criminal indictment.

In the video, Gillespie makes it clear to employees that he is standing firm with the officers involved and in no way considers the shooting a criminal act.

"I do not see this fatal shooting as a criminal act. Stanley Gibson's death is a tragedy. His death should never have happened. The actions of the officers involved in this incident were not criminal," Gillespie said in the video message.

Gillespie also said he spoke with investigators, asking them to reconsider pursuing an indictment. He concludes by asking his staff to stand together and support the officers involved.
