Cancer is getting the rear naked choke in round 3 of the Knockout Cancer for Candlelighters Kids event. The annual mixed martial arts fundraiser helps raise awareness for Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada, which provides support for local families of children diagnosed with cancer.
Now in its third year, the event is bigger than ever. MMA fighters will take to the cage and fight for a cause, while DJ Baby Chino spins his records. Local radio disc jockey Chet Buchanan will host the event, which will also feature a silent auction.
Organizers are hoping to top the success of the previous years. Since kicking off in 2010, the event has raised nearly $30,000. Those monies help Candlelighters serve approximately 100 families monthly, and as many as 300 families throughout the year.
The event takes place at 6 p.m. at the Pearl inside The Palms Casino & Resort. Tickets start at $30. For more information, visit www.candlelightersnv.org.
