LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Authorities have identified a body that washed ashore in the Arizona side of Lake Mead Thursday as Kenneth Ritter, 54, from Illinois.

Ritter was found about 2.5 miles from Hoover Dam. His body was discovered near an inflatable kayak that was still inflated. Officials said a personal floatation device was found on board, but Ritter was not wearing it at the time he was discovered.

According to the National Park Service (NPS), rangers received multiple calls at about 1 p.m. Thursday of a body north of Castle Cove, across from Sentinel Island at the Nevada-Arizona border.

Rangers arrived at the point on boat and confirmed the body at 1:49 p.m., NPS said.

NPS said no cause of death was immediately apparent. The Mohave County Coroner's Office will conduct an autopsy.
