Nevada's first lady Kathleen Sandoval participated in a nationwide reading event today.
The governor's wife joined Jumpstart, the Pearson Foundation and adults across the country to set a new world record for the largest shared reading experience.
"I am very excited to join Jumpstart and the Pearson Foundation for the second year and participate in Reading for the Record," Sandoval said. "Reading is essential to learning and reading with your child for even five minutes a day can make a difference."
The effort was part of a national early education awareness campaign which takes place each fall to promote the importance of reading.
Millions of people come together, reading the same book on the same day in the Read for the Record event each year.
Today, participants are reading Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad, by David Soman and Jacky Davis.
