LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Fire is blamed for $50,000 in damages to a Las Vegas auto shop.

Metro officers were patrolling near Lake Mead Boulevard and North Decatur Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. when smoke started to fill the area. Police discovered flames coming from the roof of Decatur Auto Center at 2147 N. Decatur Blvd.

Firefighters responded and entered the auto shop where they found a workbench covered inflames. They were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The fire burned up an interior wall to a vent in the ceiling which acted like a chimney drawing most of the heat, smoke and gases to the outside, according to fire officials.

Two vehicles parked inside the shop for repairs were not damaged.

Officials weren't able to determine what ignited the fire, but have ruled the blaze accidental. Employees left the business only an hour before the incident and said everything appeared to be fine when they left.
