HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) -

A would-be armed coffee shop robber had a Venti-sized problem when he came face-to-face with an off-duty Henderson police officer.

On Tuesday at around 11 a.m., Officer Michael Wolff stopped by the Starbucks on College Drive at the Horizon College Plaza. When he approached the counter to order, he saw a man behind the counter with a gun pulling money out of the register.

Wolff was in plain clothes but had his badge and his gun on his belt. He drew his firearm, identified himself as a police officer and ordered the robber to drop his gun.

"There was no time to think, I just reacted," said Wolff, a patrol officer with Henderson Police for five years.

The suspect, Francisco Cosenza, 25, of Las Vegas, dropped the gun and bolted for the door. Unfortunately for him, an employee had locked the door and he went right through the glass attempting to escape.

Cosenza was taken into custody and booked into Henderson Detention Center on robbery with a deadly weapon and burglary with a deadly weapon charges. He is recovering from cuts he sustained smashing through the glass.

Other than Cosenza, no one was injured in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information concerning this crime is asked to call the Henderson Police Department at (702)-267-4750 or Crime Stoppers at (702)-385-5555.
