Obama takes pre-debate tour of Hoover Dam

BOULDER CITY, NV (FOX5) -

President Barack Obama on Tuesday took a break from cramming for his upcoming debate with Republican challenger Mitt Romney to tour Hoover Dam.

The president's motorcade stopped at a helipad at around 1:15 p.m. for a view of the dam.

When asked what brought him out to the landmark, the president replied, "Because it's spectacular, and I've never seen it before. I didn't realize it was so close by."

The president, decked out in a white checkered shirt with sleeves rolled up and khaki pants, was greeted by Assistant Dam Manager for History and Operational Logistics Rob Skordas and Janel Brawner-Potucke with the United States Bureau of Reclamation.

It was Obama campaign trip manager Marvin Nicholson who informed the president that Hoover Dam is only about 15 minutes from Lake Las Vegas, where the president is staying.

"Well, we've got to go check it out," the president replied.
