LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A man is injured after a fire at the Sonoma Hills Apartments on E. Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.

Firefighters responded to a call that came in around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to the Clark County Fire Department, smoke and flames were showing from the balcony of a second floor apartment upon arrival.

Fire officials told FOX5 a second alarm was called, but firefighters from the first alarm were able to knock down the blaze without assistance.

The American Red Cross is assisting a couple that lived in the apartment as well as a family of six and two pets in a neighboring apartment.

One of the occupants in the unit where the fire started sustained minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Fire investigators have determined the improper disposal of smoking materials on the patio as the cause of the fire.

Damages are estimated at $150,000. A neighboring upstairs unit received minor damages.
