Keith Goldberg (LVMPD)
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A husband and wife remain jailed, awaiting trial on murder and conspiracy charges for the death of a Henderson cab driver.
On Thursday, the focus shifted back to the victim, 54-year-old Keith Goldberg. A volunteer search crew scoured a remote area in hopes of finding Goldberg's remains.
Members of Red Rock Search and Rescue carefully searched the area of Three Kids Mine, off Lake Mead Parkway.
"The first search we did for this case was in rain, cold. I believe it was in April. Bone-chilling cold, soaking wet. Doesn't matter – it's what we do," said Jadan Laguana with Red Rock Search and Rescue.
Cellphone tower reports and tips led the crew to the area. They went so far as to dig in the dirt for human remains.
"There's a lot of stopping, checking things out. That's why searches are very slow," said Red Rock Search and Rescue's Mark Criddle.
If crews do succeed in making a morbid discovery, they'll see it as a gift to the family whose grief stretches to the East Coast. The family filed a missing person report in February and never saw Goldberg again.
"It not only helps with the case but helps the family. When a body isn't recovered, a family is always wondering where and why and their mourning isn't complete," Criddle said.
Police said Goldberg had dated suspect Cookie Ross and that anger over a love triangle sparked the slaying.
