LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Goodwill of Southern Nevada is packing up shop. The popular Goodwill store currently located on Sahara near Torrey Pines is expanding and making its home in a brand new 16,000-square-foot retail space.
The move will create 12 new jobs in the valley and is harmonious with the company's priority to fund job placement and training programs. Last year Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped more than 1,000 local individuals find employment.
Job creation is just one perk of the move. The new location will feature a covered drive-thru donation center, making it even easier for donors to drop off their gently used goods. Plus, a bigger store means more room for merchandise. President and CEO Steve Chartrand said everyone benefits from the expansion.
"We are moving our Goodwill Sahara store by only a few blocks. But thanks to the additional space, we are able to put about 40 percent more merchandise on the sales floor," he said. "This move is a win-win for shoppers, donors and those we serve."
In 2011, Goodwill of Southern Nevada kept more than 14 million pounds of donated goods and recyclables out of landfills. That number could rise with the newly added square footage.
The new store will be located at 4580 W. Sahara Ave., just east of Decatur. The grand re-opening of the store is scheduled for Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. Coupons will be given out to the first 100 customers.
