LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Yolanda Robles and her family walked the grounds of their burned home, days after a fire destroyed a day of celebration.
"My grandchildren were in flames and their clothes were on fire," said Yolanda Robles in Spanish.
The family had just baptized 4-year-old Omar Rodriguez and were about to celebrate the milestone.
"We never got to put anything up for the party," said Hugo Robles, a relative.
According to the Clark County Fire Department, the fire started after a deep fryer was knocked over and the oil inside ignited. This created a wall of fire, separating Omar and his 4-year-old cousin Celeste from the rest of the family.
"I heard my children screaming and I couldn't do anything to save them," added Yolanda Robles crying in Spanish.
Claudia Parga, Omar's mother, tried to save the children but could not face the flames. That's when Omar's father, Leopoldo Rodriguez, dashed through the fire, picked up the two children and ran outside.
"The little boy has 50 percent of his body burned and the little girl has only 30 percent," said Yolanda Robles.
The mother was burned the least from the four victims, but the family said Leopoldo is struggling the most to survive.
After receiving minor medical attention, the grandmother has only one petition from the community.
"All I ask is your prayers for my family's recovery. The rest is material that can be replaced. My family can't."
